This Privacy Policy explains how SubSoar (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you use the SubSoar Chrome extension and this website. SubSoar is a YouTube subtitle search Chrome extension for finding words in subtitles and transcripts locally in your browser, with optional AI chat using your own API key.

Summary

  • Free subtitle search runs locally on your device. We do not upload transcripts, searches, or video history to our servers.
  • AI features (Pro) send requests from your browser to the AI provider you choose using your own API key. We do not proxy or log prompts.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store card information.
  • License validation uses api.subsoar.com to confirm Pro status only.

Data collection & processing (Chrome extension)

SubSoar processes YouTube subtitles and transcripts locally in your browser to provide fast searching and clickable timestamps.

Data we do not collect (extension)

SubSoar does not collect or transmit personal data such as YouTube video history, subtitle content, search queries, or timestamps. Subtitle search and indexing run locally in your browser.

SubSoar does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following data, regardless of whether you are using free or Pro features:

  • YouTube video URLs or watch history
  • Subtitle or transcript content
  • Search queries
  • Timestamps you click or jump to
  • Any personally identifiable information (PII) as part of subtitle search

Pro & AI features

If you upgrade to Pro and enable LLM-powered search or chat, you can provide your own API key for your preferred AI provider (for example, OpenAI). That key is stored only in the extension locally and used directly from your browser to call your LLM provider’s API.

When you use AI features, your prompts and relevant subtitle/transcript excerpts may be sent to the AI provider you configure. Those requests are governed by the provider’s own privacy policy, not ours.

SubSoar does not proxy, inspect, log, or store your AI prompts or AI responses on our servers.

Backend access (api.subsoar.com)

The extension communicates with api.subsoar.com solely to validate whether a Pro license is active (for example, to unlock Pro features after purchase).

We do not use api.subsoar.com to receive, store, or process YouTube transcripts, subtitle searches, AI prompts, or AI responses.

Payments

All payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store or process card numbers. Stripe may collect personal data necessary to complete purchases; see Stripe’s own privacy policy for details. For more information on Pro access, see our Terms & Conditions.

Data sharing

We do not sell user data. We do not share user data with third parties except:

  • Stripe (to process Pro purchases)
  • Your chosen AI provider (only when you enable AI features and submit prompts)

Website analytics (subsoar.com)

Our website (subsoar.com) uses Google Analytics to understand overall traffic patterns—such as page views, device types, and general navigation. This helps us improve the site.

Google Analytics may set cookies and collect standard web log data such as your approximate location (city-level), browser type, and device information. IP addresses are processed by Google but are not stored in full within Google Analytics.

This data is not linked to your usage of the SubSoar Chrome extension, and it does not include subtitle content, search queries, video URLs, timestamps, or anything processed inside your browser through the extension.

Extension analytics

The SubSoar Chrome extension itself does not use Google Analytics or similar tracking libraries. We may collect limited, aggregated, non-identifying operational metrics (such as total install counts or error rates) solely to maintain and improve the extension. This data cannot be used to identify individual users and does not include browsing history, subtitle content, search queries, or timestamps.

Data retention

We retain only the information necessary to operate the product and comply with legal obligations.

  • Local extension data can be removed by uninstalling the extension.
  • Pro license records (for validating access) are retained as long as needed to provide Pro access and comply with legal obligations.
